OPA Announces 839 FIT Contracts for Mid-Sized Projects

Third round of mid-sized renewable energy contracts offered

On May 26, 2011, the OPA began offering contracts to 839 CAE FIT projects, representing more than 140 MW of capacity.  Contracts will be offered over the next 10 weeks.

These contract offers are the third phase of mid-sized (capacity allocation exempt) renewable energy projects and are for applications submitted between June 5 and December 7, 2010.  It is estimated that this will create and support more than 2,000 direct ...

Solar Module Plant Job Fair in Guelph Draws Huge Crowd

A huge crowd of people interested in the 400 new jobs offered by the Canadian Solar PV module plant in Guelph flocked to a job fair on Friday February 11. The line of interested applicants filled the room, snaked down the hallway and spilled out into the parking lot and around the block.

About 100 people already work at the solar module plant, but two more production lines are ramping up next month.

Grant Application Forms and Guidelines Updated

In order to make the grant application and assessment process smoother, Application Forms and Guidelines for the Community Energy Partnerships Program (CEPP) grants have been updated. 

Additions to the Application Forms include sections for applicants to declare any conflicts with the CEPP and to provide further details related to the Financial Plan associated with their project. The Guidelines have also been updated to reflect the changes.

CEPP Funding Update: Good News for Education and Coops

Ontario Minister of Energy Brad Duguid recently announced amendments to the Community Energy Partnerships Program that increase funding of up to $500,000 available for cooperatively developed projects over 10 MW in Ontario, and allocate CEPP funding for educational purposes related to community-owned power in the province. Twelve New CEPP Grants Announced

12 new grants supporting a dozen community-owned clean energy projects in Ontario were announced by the Community Energy Partnerships Program (CEPP) today.

The Strathroy-Middlesex General Hospital Foundation is one of the recipients in this second round of CEPP grants. The Foundation plans to develop a long term funding strategy for the charity that offers the public the opportunity to be involved with planned solar projects through donations and possibly shares or bonds.

Community Solar Power Co-operative to be established in Burlington

BurlingtonGreen will announce the development of one of Ontario’s first community renewable energy cooperatives at its November 23 Annual General Meeting, 6:30 p.m. at the Burlington Public Library. The new company, to be called BrightSky Power Community Solar Co-op, will enable people in Burlington to participate in and benefit from renewable energy solar power installations.
